"Presidents/Chairs are the foremost leaders of each nation. Alongside critical decisions concerning the nation's survival in terms of economics, diplomacy, and domestic and foreign affairs, the fashion choices of these leaders are also crucial. When a head of state appears in public with a well-groomed fashion sense and a charismatic aura, it demonstrates confidence in managing their country. No citizen wants to see their national leader in disheveled attire, a dispirited appearance, or unkempt hair – these leaders represent the face of the nation, their words are the nation's declarations, and their fashion demeanor reflects the prosperity and culture of their country.
And here are some world leaders whose fashion sense and demeanor I admire. Alongside that, there will be glimpses into their lives beyond their roles as Presidents/Chairs, if applicable. It may be difficult to describe because people are accustomed to seeing heads of state in meticulously tailored suits, a hallmark of traditional menswear. However, depending on the era and the personality of each leader, we will see different outfits.
1.Abraham Lincoln – The 16th President of the United States from 1861 to 1865, who led the country through a bloody civil war. As a lawyer, Abraham Lincoln understood the laws in various states and worked towards justice for people of color, ultimately abolishing slavery. With a towering height of 6ft4 (about 1.93m) and his iconic beard, Lincoln, hailing from a legal background, looked magnificent in full-option suits, displaying a unique sense of style that not everyone possesses."
2. Nguyễn Tất Thành – Nguyễn Ái Quốc – Hồ Chủ Tịch: Certainly, from a personal perspective, I find the supreme leader of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh, to have a highly "Minimalist" and "Brutalist" fashion sense. If we look at it more liberally, we can draw parallels between Maison Margiela and Taichi Murakami. President Ho Chi Minh traveled extensively around the world for several decades, gaining not only profound insights into human civilization and politics but also in fashion (It's worth noting that he lived in France, the capital of fashion). With an old-style typewriter and a cigarette in hand, President Ho Chi Minh exudes a feeling of "Simplicity that is not simple."
3.Putin – Because it's simply Putin. Putin doesn't follow fashion; what he wears creates fashion. Just kidding, Russian President Vladimir Putin, with his background from the KGB (Russia's National Security Committee, with functions that can be equated to the FBI and CIA of the United States), trained in the toughest institutions in Russia, gives us a feeling akin to a Soviet "Godfather." Strong and robust, this President doesn't often wear suits; he often opts for light jackets or even bombers. Images of Putin during his outdoor activities also show him quite stylish with trendy items in colors like olive, grey, along with cargo pants and a bucket hat.
4.Barack Obama – the first African-American President of the United States and the 44th overall. He can be considered the President/Leader most in tune with the "Streetwear" culture that we love. Part of it is because he was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, a place with diverse cultures, so Barack Obama absorbed a wealth of influences from Africa, Europe, Asia, and America. His time in Chicago, a city rich in American street culture, gave us a President "Not just in suits," but also in highly "current" fashion items like bomber jackets, leather jackets, chunky sneakers, Adidas Stan Smiths, and even Yeezys. Unlike many heads of state or high-ranking leaders closely tied to the world of politics, Barack Obama had close contact with all aspects of popular culture, so his fashion choices were also quite diverse. Setting aside political matters, Barack Obama is, in his own right, the best-dressed President in the United States.
5. Nicholas II – The last Tsar of Russia. Despite witnessing the downfall of the Russian Empire during his reign, Tsar Nicholas II cannot be denied the title of a "Fashion Icon." He had a passion for clothing, fashion, shoes, and art. If you're into luxury and royal styles, then Tsar Nicholas II is definitely someone you should explore further. Every piece of clothing he wore was made from the finest materials and crafted by the most skilled artisans. The late Tsar's extensive clothing collection continues to be highly revered by fashion experts to this day. Many still consider Nicholas II to be "The most stylish king in history." Besides his impeccable sense of style, Tsar Nicholas was also very handsome and possessed an ideal physique.
6.Justin Trudeau – The 23rd Prime Minister of Canada. The second-youngest Prime Minister in Canadian history, this handsome and affable leader also boasts a very "Smart Boy" fashion sense. Being in the prime of his life, Prime Minister Justin gives us modern and relatable suits and outfits that resonate with the younger generation today. However, he still ensures the necessary level of elegance and gravitas expected of a national leader.
