Because we live in Vietnam and the climate is hot (especially summer in the North and dry season in the South), choosing clothes suddenly becomes difficult because of the hot and sultry air. For men, we always pack a chemise shirt, pants and maybe a coat if you don't go out. So what to do to avoid sticky sweat? Here, the material is the main factor because it will be in direct contact with the skin, so 80% of the perception of a summer outfit is made up of the fabric it is made of.
The main criterion for choosing fabric for the summer is the breathability/ability of the fabric to dissipate heat to prevent sweating and another criterion is the tailoring ability of each fabric.
Linen.
Linen is called linen, which is known as the king of summer. This is one of the fabrics that first appeared with the times; It should be noted that linen fabric is woven from the flax plant and is different from linen fabric woven from silk, which is often confused in Vietnam about the word linen. Being the most commonly used fabric in summer tailoring, linen can be made into shirts, jackets and pants depending on the softness of the fabric. Linen is very color-retaining, durable and suitable for use in tailoring.
With its airy properties and air easily circulating through the surface, linen does not cause the body to sweat when worn. Therefore, the fabric gives the wearer an extremely airy feeling and is unmatched in terms of coolness in the summer. However, one point that can be considered a weakness of linen is that it wrinkles very quickly when worn. The way linen creases sometimes becomes its own type of charm because it often creases into small, floating horizontal ripples.
High-quality linen is often thicker and heavier than low-quality linen (some are thicker and have rougher fibers). Poor quality linen is usually very light and when worn, it will not crease into horizontal ripples but into a rather ugly, tangled form
Cotton.
A well-known top choice is cotton, which is probably a common name from apparel to many appliances. One of Cotton's strengths is that it is cheaper and quite breathable. However, cotton types for summer often wrinkle quickly and the cotton's wrinkled style is wrinkled, not a bouncy style that can keep its shape like linen. Another problem with cotton is that it often fades faster than other types. If using fabric for tailoring, we recommend that you consider a cotton/linen combo rather than pure cotton.
Mohair
Mohair is a fabric often chosen for people who have a lot of experience in dressing. Woven from angora sheep wool, mohair has good color quality with a silk-like appearance and is thick and airy (good sweat absorption - Mohair is a luxury product because it is warm in winter and cool in summer). However, mohair has a fairly large fiber size and is hard, so when wearing pants it sometimes feels quite itchy and stiff, so use it with lined pants. Pure mohair fabric (pure mohair) is quite stiff and expensive, so if you look to buy it, you will rarely see it, but often see fabrics that combine mohair with other fabrics depending on the fabric for different wearing seasons.
Wool.
Wool is mentioned a lot in garments because of its easy to tailor properties, low wrinkles, straight fabric and many shapes, so this is the top choice. However, using the wrong type of wool is also the reason why European clothes are considered hot or uncomfortable to wear in Vietnam, but in fact the problem we see is due to the limited source of materials from tailors, Tailors themselves do not yet understand the types of fabrics suitable for different conditions. You can easily find types of wool suitable for summer such as tropical wool, cool wool or some weaving styles such as fresco and hopsack or for easy identification, you can see this type of wool weighing around 260 gsm-. However, wool does not prevent sweating in the summer, so it is best to wear wool while sitting in the air conditioner.
